The taste perception of alcohol is related to the smell of mones and sexual behavior

Okay, so there seems to be an interesting link between how people perceive mones and how people perceive the taste of alcohol, and this difference has implications for people's sexual behavior.

I hope that keeps people's attention for a paragraph or two, because I need to give some quick background info.

OR7D4 is one of the receptors that people use to smell mones like androstenone and androstadienone, and probably the best studied. It can become more sensitive with repeated exposure, but it's also influenced by genetics (apparently a single gene.)

So enter this little gem;

Quote:The flavor of ethanol was related to variation within an olfactory receptor gene (OR7D4) and a gene encoding a subunit of the epithelial sodium channel (SCNN1D).

Unfortunately only the abstract seems to be unavailable, but I'll search more on this later.

However that made me recall the following line from the OKCupid blog (which was just amazing till the company got sold to different owners.) The article is about getting information via indirect questions. In this case, gauging a person's sexual proclivities based on their opinion on the taste of beer.

Quote:No matter their gender or orientation, beer-lovers are 60% more likely to be okay with sleeping with someone they've just met.

Hmm... so if DHEA blocks the androgen and estrogen receptors (and likely OR7D4) and taste of alcohol is related to androstenone perception, I wonder what DHEA would do to the taste of alcohol?
